Bio: Jody Shipka
Jody Shipka is a Ph.D. student in the Department of English and a Research Assistant in the Center for
Writing Studies. She became interested in the 2002-2003 CAS Initiative when she received a copy of Florian
Znaniecki's The Social Role of the University Student and discovered that the ethnographic work he had been
conducting with his students bore a striking resemblance to the historical/ethnographic projects that Shipka's
Rhetoric 105 classes have been developing for the past three semesters. Shipka looks forward to spending the
coming academic year enriching and further developing her analysis of her students' rich ethnographic texts.
