Bio: Catherine Prendergast

Catherine Prendergast is an Assistant Professor of English. Her forthcoming book, Literacy and Racial Justice: The Politics of Learning after Brown v. Board of Education, reveals the impact of the civil rights movement on literacy in the United States, and the influence of ideologies of literacy on the direction of the civil rights movement. Her current research interests include examining how literacy institutions facilitate the development of kinship bonds. She is currently teaching a rhetoric 105 class with the University of Illinois as its theme.
