Bio: Marilyn Murphy
Marilyn Murphy is the Associate Director in the University Office for Academic Policy Analysis,
the academic research arm of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. She produces the University Student
Databook, Transfer Characteristics, and Report to the Board of Trustees on Underrepresented Students, Faculty,
and Staff, to name a few. She also participates in various administrative functions such as the University-wide
implementation of the Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS) and UI-Integrate committees. Statewide committees
include several pertaining to the Illinois Articulation Initiative and one to lead a project to bring DARS access
to institutions across the state. She is active in the Illinois Association of Institutional Research and the
Illinois Transfer Coordinators.
Murphy earned a doctorate in Educational Policy Studies from UIUC after receiving a Master's in Public Administration
at UIS and she holds baccalaureate degrees in computer science and in vocal music. Before coming to the University
she held several staff positions at the Illinois Board of Regents in Springfield, Illinois. Her specialty is retention
and graduation research of undergraduate students and, though not a formal research endeavor, she has long been interested
in the flow and use of information by the decision-makers in higher education.
