Bio: Cynthia Carter Ching

Cynthia Carter Ching is an Assistant Professor of Educational Psychology and holds a PhD in Education from UCLA, where she also studied at the Center for Language, Interaction, and Culture. Her research focuses on technology in situated contexts such as classrooms, child and youth culture, and individuals’ lives. Currently she is engaged in a study of how young adults construct their own identities in relation to technology through narratives of individual and family history. Publication areas include gender and technology, science education and children’s scientific discourse, collaborative learning, instructional design, and higher education pedagogy. Professor Ching recently received the UIUC Arnold O. Beckman Award for Research. Her interest in the EOTU project comes not only from relevant research interests, but also from her experience with guiding student-conducted ethnographies in an undergraduate course.
